Pekin Police Department

RECORDS & EVIDENCE

Records & Evidence Division

The Pekin Police Department Records & Evidence Division serves as the administrative backbone of the department, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and integrity in every case we handle.

Records clerks are responsible for maintaining official police reports, managing documentation, and processing requests for information in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). They ensure that public records are handled professionally, confidential information is protected, and legal requirements are consistently met. Their work supports investigators, officers, prosecutors, attorneys, and members of the public who rely on accurate and timely documentation.

In addition to records management, Evidence Clerks are entrusted with the secure handling and storage of property and evidence collected during investigations. This includes maintaining strict chain-of-custody procedures, organizing evidence for court proceedings, coordinating releases and disposals in compliance with court orders, and ensuring all items are preserved according to legal and departmental standards.

Attention to detail, organization, integrity, and a thorough understanding of policy are essential in this role. The Records & Evidence Division plays a critical part in the success of every investigation and prosecution, ensuring that cases are supported by properly documented reports and safeguarded evidence.
