The Pekin Police Department currently assigns two detectives to a regional task force in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

These detectives are responsible for investigating illegal drug activity at every level — from neighborhood distribution networks to large-scale trafficking organizations. Their work targets the manufacturing, distribution, and movement of controlled substances that impact our community and the broader region.

Task force detectives conduct covert investigations, develop confidential sources, gather and analyze intelligence, and execute search and arrest warrants. They prepare comprehensive case reports and work closely with federal, state, and local partners, as well as prosecutors, to build strong, sustainable criminal cases designed to dismantle drug trafficking operations.

This assignment requires advanced investigative skill, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in complex, multi-jurisdictional environments. It represents one of the most impactful specialty opportunities within the department.
