The Pekin Police Department has 3 Officers assigned to the Drone Team. The Drone Team utilizes 4 different drones to assist the patrol and special services division. The Drone team will deploy a drone under certain circumstances for a multitude of reasons including but not limited to fleeing suspects, missing/endangered persons, crime scene photography, public disasters and parades and festivals. Two of the drones have both zoom capabilities and thermal cameras allowing us to serach at night. The Drone Team also assists CIERT with over watch and deployment into buildings prior to sending personnel inside. Each pilot is expected to train each month to keep familiar with controls and make sure the drones are flight ready prior to deployment.
