Pekin Police Department

PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER

Public Information Officer (PIO)

At the Pekin Police Department, the Public Information Officer (PIO) serves as the official voice of the department and a vital link between law enforcement and the community.

The PIO manages media relations, coordinates public messaging, and ensures the timely release of accurate information during both routine operations and critical incidents. During major events, the PIO works closely with command staff, investigators, and partner agencies to provide clear, transparent updates while protecting the integrity of active investigations.

Beyond media responsibilities, the PIO plays a central role in strengthening community relationships. The department actively participates in initiatives such as National Night Out, Cops for Kids, and Shop with a Cop, which foster positive engagement between officers and the residents they serve. Through community outreach, public education efforts, and consistent communication, the PIO helps build trust, promote transparency, and highlight the department’s commitment to service.

Serving as a Public Information Officer requires strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to represent the department with professionalism and integrity. For officers interested in leadership, outreach, and community engagement, the PIO assignment offers a uniquely impactful opportunity.
